A new road across the Estates—and a trail too
Get tomorrow’s brief free — in your inbox by 7 AM.
Sunny and 93 today, with the usual afternoon storms building off the Gulf by mid-afternoon, so run your errands early. The bigger news: Collier quietly opened a seven-mile, six-lane road across Golden Gate Estates, and the walking-and-biking trail running beside it gets its ribbon cut Wednesday.
Today
Grab the beach in the morning
Red tide reads clear at every Collier station from Vanderbilt down to South Marco and the water's calm — but with a sunny 93 and storms likely after lunch, the morning is your window before the lightning rolls in.
Local News
A new six-lane road just opened across the Estates
Seven fresh miles now run from Collier Boulevard deep into Golden Gate Estates — the east-west relief valve the Estates has wanted for years, and a faster shot toward I-75 when Immokalee and Pine Ridge are crawling.
The trail beside it opens Wednesday
The first seven miles of the Paradise Coast Trail get a ribbon-cutting July 1 at 10 a.m. out by the new Vanderbilt Beach Road extension — a paved path to walk or bike well clear of US-41 traffic.
Condos and boat slips coming to the Fifth Ave bridge
City Council approved the Viceroy — 12 condos, ground-floor shops, boat slips and tucked-under parking — on the little waterfront wedge where Fifth Avenue South crosses the Gordon River. That sleepy gateway corner is about to look very different.
Stained glass, lit nightly, across from City Hall
Naples Community Church got the nod for $1.2 million in stained glass — nine panels illuminated every night — and the city waived its $27,800 public-art fee to help make it happen.
Food & Drink
Pelican Larry's is now an Italian room
The old Pelican Larry's on Davis Boulevard reopened as Adoré Bar & Cucina, a fully gutted spot from the Hoxha family behind GG Brunch Haus — one of three new Italian places landing around town.
The Dock at Crayton Cove turns 50
Through canoe races, hurricanes and changing owners, the chalkboard-menu fixture on Naples Bay has outlasted nearly everything around it. Worth a sunset drink to mark the milestone.
